We at Ember Care Inc. are working to make our site, embercare.ca, accessible to people with disabilities. This matters to us more than most: many of the people who visit this site are older adults, people living with disabilities, and the families who care about them — often on a stressful day. Our promise, "Care that sees the person," starts here.

 

What web accessibility is

An accessible website lets visitors with disabilities browse and use the site with the same ease and independence as everyone else. That comes from two things working together: how the site itself is built, and its ability to work with assistive technologies — such as screen readers, keyboard-only navigation, and text enlargement.

 

Accessibility adjustments on this site

We have adapted this site in accordance with the WCAG 2.1 guidelines at Level AA, and its content is designed to work with assistive technologies such as screen readers and keyboard navigation. As part of this effort, we have:

  • Used Wix's Accessibility Wizard to find and fix potential accessibility issues

  • Set the language of the site

  • Set the content (reading) order of the site's pages

  • Defined a clear heading structure on the site's pages

  • Added alternative text to meaningful images

  • Used colour combinations that meet the required contrast ratio

  • Kept motion gentle and reduced, with no flashing content and no autoplaying sound

  • Ensured the documents and media on the site are accessible

  • Designed the site mobile-first, with large tap targets, generous font sizes, labelled form fields, plain language, and a short multi-step enquiry form instead of one long, exhausting one

 

We review the site's accessibility on an ongoing basis. If we've missed something, tell us — we'll fix it or get you the same information another way, promptly and without fuss.

 

Declaration of partial compliance with the standard due to third-party content

Some pages of this site include content that belongs to third parties rather than to Ember Care — for example, the embedded area map and links to our social media pages. We cannot guarantee the accessibility of that third-party content, and we therefore declare partial compliance with the standard for the pages that contain it. If any of it presents a barrier for you, contact us and we will provide the same information in a way that works for you.

 

Accessibility arrangements in the organization

Our care is provided in our clients' own homes rather than at a business premises, so for us, accessibility arrangements are about how we serve — in keeping with Ontario's Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA) and its Customer Service Standard:

  • We serve people with disabilities with dignity, independence, integration, and equal opportunity, and we communicate in ways that take each person's disability into account.

  • Service animals and support persons are welcome wherever we serve you.

  • The website is never the only way to reach us. Call (548) 900-5880 and a person will help you directly — answer questions, take your enquiry, or book your free consultation by phone, at whatever pace suits you.

  • Our documents — including this statement, our privacy policy, and our service agreements — are available in accessible formats such as large print on request, and we're happy to read them through with you.

  • Our team is trained to provide accessible customer service, and if a part of our service is temporarily unavailable, we let affected clients know promptly and offer an alternative.
